Born in Japan, 1976. Based in Kanagawa, Japan.

Having spent his early years in Vancouver, Canada, Akihiko Hirama initially pursued studies in biological sciences at Yamagata University and Tohoku University Graduate School. His background in biology deeply informed his artistic interest in perception, light, and the boundaries of physical phenomena.

He later graduated from the Nippon Photography Institute and spent over two decades as a professional photographer across advertising, commercial, and editorial projects.

In his fine art practice, Hirama deconstructs traditional photographic resolution, employing everyday digital devices to capture unfigurative light, color, and noise. His work invites viewers to step away from information-dense reality and experience the pure, tactile essence of visual perception.

1976年生まれ、神奈川県在住。 幼少期をカナダ・バンクーバーで過ごす。山形大学理学部生物学科卒業後、東北大学大学院理学研究科にて生物学を専攻。科学的アプローチを通じて培われた生命や知覚現象への深い探求心は、現在の写真表現の核となっている。

その後、日本写真芸術専門学校を卒業し、20年以上にわたり広告・商業写真の分野で第一線のフォトグラファーとしてキャリアを重ねる。

ファインアートの領域においては、写真が持つ「解像」や「具象描写」をあえて解体。身近なデジタルデバイスを通じて具象を持たない光、色彩、そしてノイズの質感（テクスチャ）を立ち上げる実験的な作品を展開している。
